What a Birth-Day…

To everyone who wished me Happy Birthday  (or Happy Belated Birthday), thank you.

I had a marvellous birthday this year, despite my husband’s initial intention of buying me a blender as a birthday gift. (He gave me something else after several hints).
Thanks you, Nazri. I really loved it. (it=not blender. But we bought the blender anyway.)

My hubby also took me out to Tamarind Hill for a dinner. The place was beautiful, but it turned out not to be very romantic though:

  • because the place was so ‘exotic’, I had mosquito bites on my legs. Yes, there were mosquitoes around despite the ubat nyamuk yg dipasang under the table.
  • since my birthday was 3 days after Christmas, the background music throughout the dinner was Jingle Bells and such. (I have nothing against Christmas songs or raya songs, but…not on my birthday la man…)

The food was nothing to shout about (except for the lovely somtam), definitely overcharged (especially the ugly fish), but the ambience was generally nice. Nazri and I both thought that next time KL Hilton will do.

Prior to the dinner, something else happenned at the faculty.

When Nazri dropped me off to work in the morning, Nazri asked me to keep his shirt for the evening at my room. Suez then thought maybe I could hang it at the common room (bilik rehat for the lecturers) since there is a coat hanger in that room. I arrived very early in the morning, nobody saw me putting that shirt there. Then I went to classes etc.

Later in the afternoon, Suez told me that there a minor ‘commotion’ in the common room. It was caused by the existence a man’s shirt in the common room that apperared to have come from nowhere, and Dr. Gan who was always the first person to unlock the common room every morning was shocked to find the shirt. "It wasn’t there when I locked the room last night"  he commented. He didn’t know that I also have the key to the locked common room.

Then came out the story about a lady who was always seen roaming at the faculty. I have no idea who have actually seen her, but I haven’t and do not intend to see her. Neither of us can ascertain whether the ‘lady’ really exists or it’s just a rumour. But it was enough to cause Dr. Choong to bring all his family members upstairs with him everytime he comes to the faculty on the weekends.

When Suez told the Dean that the shirt was mine (my husband’s to be exact), she just laughed. Later when I went to pick the mysterious shirt from the common room, I found the Dean reading the newspaper and she asked me to just leave it there and "don’t tell anyone, just let them wonder". Then Dr. Choong (who was oblivious to the fact that it was MY shirt) came in and the Dean told him that I was holding the shirt because I was going to knock on everyone’s door to determine whose shirt it was. It was so funny because I think Dr. Choong actually bought it.

Another birthday, another year older. But I guess we are all kids in our hearts (and behaviour, sometimes.)
