People wonder why do Kelantanese love to speak in Kelantan dialect whenever they see each other.
Sebab kecek kelate meme best. Senang. Lidah tak berbelit. Byk perkara yang kita boleh express dgn mudah in bahasa kelantan and it’s also a soft language, especially bila orang tua nak tegur kita kalau kita buat salah.

Adam_rock

Adam pun suka nyanyi lagu Pencinta Wanita versi kelate - "Ambo meme suko oghe tino" dengan gitar dia. (ni memang aksi dia main gitar sambil nyanyi lagu tu.)

Papa dia selalu cakap Udahla tu! Malu den tengok!"

You know some of the Kelantanese words came from English?
For example, ‘bekwoh’ = kenduri, came from the words ‘big work’.
The words ‘tera’ = try or ‘te’h’ = test are also commonly used in Kelantan.
(Ada lagi beberapa words lagi, please refer below..got it from sumwhere)

I was telling my husband about the word ‘pe’" (pronounced as ‘pear’), which means pukul dgn menggunakan tangan, tapi bukan bantai or bergaduh. Usually parents pukul anak, they will use the word ‘pe’, pukul kat tangan ke, kat bahu ke, gitula lebih kurang.

Aku   : I rasa perkataan ‘pe’ tu datang dari word "spank" la.
Nazri : Hmm….ye kot..orang-orang Kelantan ni memang ‘kinky‘ orangnya.

….kinky??!!!!Ayeh_debe

Lepas tu aku pun ‘pe’ Nazri kuat-kuat kat belakang dia.
Rasakan. (keno pe’ sebutir ko aku)

Yati, buke keleh tapi kelah.
Ko dapat 98 out of 100, buleh nikoh dgn oghe kelate doh yea!

Yuhanis, ‘te’ tu macam pukul jugak tapi yg aku paham ‘te’ tu lebih ganas sikit daripada ‘pe’. Kalu bergaduh org akan cakap ‘dio te’ sayo’, buke ‘pe’. “Pe” ni mcm manja sikit, hehehe

Bluesy ni ko ni memang kelakar la…ambo tok berani pukul demo, takut nanti kalu ambo te’ demo, ambo pulok hok nneting balik kui kui kui!

Chemek, aku tahu mu sure rindu ko aku hahaha! Aku ingat lagi Cikgu Saleh dok gelenya ko mung… Eh aku ada buat pantun ya? Tok ingat doh aku…those were the good old days, kan? Hmmm…..;-)

Hok neting tu bini ambo suko. Dulu ambo neting crazy frog sampe lonih duk ‘ting ting ting’ sokmo. Hahahahaha!!

Anyway, i understand some Kelantanese because one of me childhood friend was kelantanese. I was so close to him that i was considered part of the family once. Though i admit i can’t really spoke their language, just like Iban nor currently Bajau and Dusun, i do have an idea what they are talking about.

To me kelantanese language is very soft. Even in anger, their language is fonologically in a softer tone and melodic. Compared to me mom’s Kedahan language, Penagites or Negeri Sembilan’s which have a harsher tone.

Kelantanese and to an extent Terengganu’s Malay are quite, i admit, hard to fathom to the unfamiliar ears. The same goes to Negeri Sembilan/ Minang and Melayu Sarawak.

Hence i personally think our forefathers made the correct choice of taking Johor Malay as the standard base for the Malay language, for theirs just like Pahang’s Malay dialect are considered just nice and smack right in the middle path. Not too soft nor harsh. Easily spoken, mild and fonologically strong enough to get the message across.

Actually i saw an RTM documentary once. It was about cintai bahasa malaysia etc. SO they wanted to prove that bahasa malaysia can be ‘exported’ abroad. So they track down this former ‘exchange student’ from africa who studied in one of our local Uni. The moment he spoke Malay i laugh like hell.

Yeah he can spoke Malay fluently of course. But only in Kelantanese!!! Hahahahahaha!!! Still can remember his face all smiling and excited, saying words such as ‘Tokse’, ‘ambo’ etc. What an interview that was… LOL!!!

bokbong tu bkn hantu ke??? kalau main time2 maghrib nanti mak aku panggil “Tini naik dumoh, namo keno make ko hatu bokbong” :P

Comment by    Nik Haryati 08.01.07 @ 7:34 am

Which minah? Your friend the ‘quotation photographer’ or this X-box addict? Hahahaha!!

This is not buli. Just to brighten the day. Heh! I remembered in one of those orientation week, whereby in order to get me signature, the juniors had to say they love ‘abang wira’ over the microphone, guys and girls alike!! Ahaks! And Wira was supposed to give a speech just after that session, introducing himself and all. What a coincedence!! Hahahahaha!!

Ahhh, Nik Haryati. Couldnt remember your name, but i do remember your face. Kinda resemble a friend of mine. As to bokbong, never heard of that. Park Joo Bong i know!! Hahahahaha!!

Comment by    bluesyworms 08.01.07 @ 9:29 am

Bluesy, I meant the X-Box girl but what difference does it make to you? Hahahaha!

BTW, kalau u suruh freshies tahun buat macam yg u suruh we all dulu buat, memang masuk newspaper la…freshies tahun ni ada yg ayah dia komplen dlm newspaper sebab senior suruh ambik signature masa orientasi!

Comment by    Asnida 08.01.07 @ 5:19 pm

Nik, aku tak pernah guna word ‘bokbong’ tu tapi memang bunyi dia menakutkan macam hantu aje

Comment by    Asnida 08.01.07 @ 5:20 pm

Well taking the signature thingy can be misused. The trick is how to make it fun and explanation why we do so after the ’session’. Though me counter argument after the explanation would also be like ” And who the hell elect you as our trainer for building self confidence and such eh?!!” Ahaks!

I know some seniors not in our fac, use such tactics to force the juniors doing something ridiculous. Like, err… jumping from a second floor balcony at the engineering fac. The junior patah kaki and the seniors got suspended, and one was expelled. Deserve them right i’d say…

In my time, i was ask to jual kainlah, sing and dance in a group if not mistaken and other whatnots. But one incident i will always remember was Jamal’s punya kerja. Hampeh! Should have kenakan adik dia, Firdaus ke his name, lupa lak. Lucky me i dah kenakan abang dia banyak kali. Hahahahaha!!!

Well anyway, I admit i did also scolded some juniors for the fun of it. I think that was in the 2001 orientation. But after five minutes i was like going, hey! This is not me! Heh! Feel kinda bad being those seniors i hate. Hahahaha!!

The best is to follow that senior, firgit his name but time tuh bf anak perempuan Chandra Muzaffar. I, Ryan and James met him at the old fac and he just greet me warmly and say welcome to the fac. That is gentlemanly. And the three of us tried our best to follow his examples when meeting juniors.

For example, most juniors call us just by our names and we dont mind. Some guys even pow rokok from us also, while most of you girls pow me car for a ride. Ai yai yai yai yai…

There are other factors as to why in our time all of us were kinda close. I wrote it in a reply i made in Suzanna’s blog.

Times have changed and… erk… ini dah panjang ler… i answer in me bloglah. Hahahahaha!!
